Almog Goldstein
Founding President · Open Universe, LLC
Open Innovation practitioner and researcher. Four years spent building the Open Innovation practice at one of the world's leading universities — now applied to the firms that want to capture real, strategic value from the knowledge they already own.
From one project to a global practice.
In 2022, Almog founded the Open Innovation Squad at UC Berkeley — a single project pairing cross-functional student teams with corporations on real Open Innovation challenges. It became the Open Innovation Labs at the Institute for Business Innovation in 2025.
Today the program runs 15+ active engagements, has trained more than 70 Berkeley students, and convenes an advisory board of 60+ Open Innovation experts from global corporations and top academic institutions.
That work is the source material for Open Universe — a separate American consulting firm focused on bringing the same methods, frameworks, and mindset to companies directly.
The Open Innovation Labs at UC Berkeley.
Almog is the Founding Executive Director of the Open Innovation Labs at the Institute for Business Innovation, Haas School of Business — the academic home that grew out of the Open Innovation Squad he founded at UC Berkeley in 2022.
At the Labs, Almog designs and runs Open Innovation engagements with global corporations: scoping the strategic question, assembling cross-functional teams of Berkeley graduate students, and guiding the project through customer discovery, framing and reframing, value creation and capture analysis, and final recommendations to the corporate sponsor. The program has run 15+ engagements, trained 70+ Berkeley students, and convenes an advisory council of 60+ Open Innovation experts from leading corporations and universities.
The Labs sit inside a faculty community that has defined the modern field of Open Innovation, product management, IP strategy, and negotiation. Working alongside these professors is what gives Open Universe its intellectual foundation.
The professors below lead the academic programs Almog collaborates with at UC Berkeley. They are not affiliated with Open Universe, LLC.
